This man saved my life and the men I served with, can any of us ever count or understand how many lives this man among men saved and looked after by giving a stern talk about the mission and the duty to perform.
The mission!
By saying to me, your duty is to get these young men
home, just how many lives did he save? The waiting family's lives and
their children's children. My heart nearly stopped by the roughness in
his voice during the war; When he said to me “Soldier your job is to
perform your Mission and get these young men home to their families.”.
Simple you say?
Our teams were made up of only 5 to 12 men and changed regularly. If you
say I was the only man he ever said that to, I was not But if you did
say that; I can say I have touched thousands of lives and so have the
men I served with that he saved with these Words of Wisdom, your job is
to get them home to their families.
The words hurt, because in my training some how I was at the time only
focusing on the mission and the cost did not matter, but this man among
men, or man of men, a man's man could see that in me at the time. He
knew the words to say to make things right and save lives. My chilled
bones and hurt feelings at the time turned into a storey of warm
feelings and strength to the sole many years later. It brings smiles to
my face, warms my heart, and cheers to my humor to remember this man
today .
This storey could and should apply to your TOP, but for sure it is a
Storey of our TOP, First Sgt. JACK FRANKS
